Carousel.
The arrangement of the slot machines on the casino floor.

Coin size. Also referred to as the coin denomination. This is the value of each coin that you are playing with. If the machine you are playing on is a 25 cent machine, then the coin size that you are playing is 25 cents.

Hopper . The area in the slot machine where the money is stored.

Low Level Slot Machines . Slot machines that are lower to the floor where you sit down to play.

Multi-line Slot Machines . A machine that has more than one pay line. Multi-line slot machines range from 2 pay lines up to 10 or even 15 pay lines.

Max Bet. When playing slot machines, a maximum bet is a bet where you play the highest amount of coins allowed. Max bets usually range from 2 coins up to 5 coins.

Payback . The amount of coins a machine will pay you on a winning combination depending on the amount of coins played.

Pay for Play Machines . This type of machine will pay a set amount depending on how many coins inserted. A different amount is won if you played 1 coin, 2 coins or 3 coins.

Pay Line . A line on the slot machines face where the symbols must line up on in order to win.

Pay Table . An area on the slot machine that lays out for the player the winning combinations that they must hit in order to win. The pay table will also explain how many coins must be played in order to win certain amounts or jackpots. The pay table also displays any bonus features, etc. All pay tables display winning amounts in the specific coin denominations, not one unit of currency.

Progressive Slots . A carousel or group of slot machines that are linked together to pay out one large jackpot. A percentage of every coin played from every machine is put towards one large jackpot, when the jackpot is won, a new, smaller jackpot is set and grows until someone wins it again. Some progressive games may be linked with slot machines in other casinos, thus the jackpots can grow very high.

Progressive Jackpot . A large jackpot that is formed from a percentage of coins played in a number of different machines. This jackpot keeps on growing until someone hits it. In order to win a progressive jackpot, in most cases, you must play the max amount of coins to qualify for it.

Reels. The slender circular devices with which the slot machines symbols are printed on. These reels spin and stop revealing the symbols with which one might win with. A typical slot machine has three to five reels.

Slot Machine Club Member . A person who loves slot machines may become a slots club member at their favorite casino. These players are given a card with which they use to play slot machines, similar to credit card. When using their club card, members will earn bonus points or cash that can be used within the casino. Each casinos Slot Machine club has different benefits.

Stand Up Slot Machines . Opposite of the low level slot machine, these machines are typically higher form the ground where players play standing up.

Symbols. The graphics printed on the reels that must line up in order to win on a slot machine.

Take and Pay Cycles . Some believe that every slot machine works on a cycle, meaning that after a certain amount of coins played with no hits (take cycle) the machine must pay out to the player (pay cycle).

Tilt . A tern used to describe a machine that is not functioning or out of operation. “The machine was not working, it was on a tilt”.

Wild Symbol . A symbol that takes on the value of any symbol needed to create a winning combination. Similar to a joker in some cards games.
